UCLA appoints LAPD's Steve Lurie to lead campus safety after a violent protest last year.

UCLA has appointed LAPD Commander Steve Lurie as its new associate vice chancellor for campus and community safety, following a violent incident at a pro-Palestinian protest last spring. Lurie, a 27-year LAPD veteran and UCLA alumnus, will start his role on February 1, succeeding Rick Braziel. Chancellor Julio Frenk expressed confidence in Lurie's ability to lead the renamed Office of Campus Safety.
