Senior officer pleads guilty to assault, claims brain tumor as defense, rejected by court.
Senior constable Ian Philip Rooke, 43, pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault after punching a man having a psychotic episode and hitting a drunk woman in separate incidents. Rooke claimed his brain tumor caused his actions, but a magistrate rejected this, citing insufficient evidence linking his tumor to the assaults. Rooke, suspended with pay since July 2024, will seek further medical reports before his sentencing on March 18.
