Chairman of JD Wetherspoon urges UK PM to cut food taxes for pubs to ease £60m labor costs.
Tim Martin, chairman of JD Wetherspoon, has called on the UK Prime Minister to reduce food taxes for pubs to ease rising labor costs of £60 million expected in April.
Wetherspoon reported a 5.1% increase in sales over the past 25 weeks, with food sales up 5.6%, but Martin argues the current 20% VAT on pub food gives supermarkets, who benefit from zero VAT, an unfair advantage.
He urges equalizing VAT rates to support pubs.
