Canada urged to compensate Afghan interpreters for mental health issues post-war service.

The Canadian ombudsperson recommends compensating Afghan interpreters who served with the Canadian military in Afghanistan and later faced mental distress. These advisers, hired between 2006 and 2014, encountered difficulties accessing benefits due to not being covered under military policies. The report calls for independent assessments to determine compensation for mental health issues like PTSD. Defence Minister Bill Blair has offered support, but the federal government has not yet provided assistance.
