Major fire destroys four structures on private Somerset County island, causing $600K loss.

A major fire broke out on Monday afternoon on a privately-owned island in Somerset County, destroying four structures, including a vacant home and two sheds. The fire started around 1:30 PM in a 32'x60' building and spread quickly due to strong winds and difficulty accessing the island by boat. Firefighters from the Deal Island-Chance Volunteer Fire Company managed to control the blaze after two hours, but the cause remains under investigation. The estimated loss is $600,000.
