Ghana defaults on cocoa loan due to 20-year low in cocoa production.
Ghana's cocoa production has hit a 20-year low of 530,000 metric tonnes, leading to a default on an $800 million loan meant to purchase 850,000 tonnes of cocoa.
The shortfall has been rolled over, with 374,000 tonnes still outstanding.
Minister-Designate for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku highlighted the need to address these financial issues to stabilize the cocoa industry.
