Cambodia pushes back mine-free goal to 2030 due to challenges in clearing remote areas.

Cambodia has extended its goal to become mine-free to 2030, delaying the original 2025 deadline due to the difficulty of clearing mines in mountainous and heavily forested border areas with Thailand. The country, heavily affected by landmines from decades of war, aims to clear an estimated 4-6 million mines left from conflicts ending in 1998. Since 1979, landmines have claimed 19,834 lives and injured 45,252 people.
