Navajo Scouts aid in California wildfire response, marking first major external mutual aid effort.

Navajo Nation firefighters, known as the Navajo Scouts, have been aiding in the containment of wildfires in Southern California for eight days. The wildfires have led to at least 27 deaths, over 12,000 structure destructions, and more than 80,000 evacuation orders. The 23-member crew is working on clearing landslides and fallen trees and extinguishing remaining hot spots alongside utility workers from the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority. This marks the first time the Navajo Nation has participated in a major mutual aid project outside their homeland.
