Jacksonville mother charged with child's death from fentanyl and xylazine overdose.

A Jacksonville mother, Melissa Harper, 43, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child after her two-year-old son died from a drug overdose involving fentanyl and xylazine, a dangerous substance also known as "Tranq." The child died in March 2024, and the cause of death was determined by the Medical Examiner's autopsy. Florida lawmakers are considering mandatory minimum sentences of seven to 25 years for trafficking xylazine due to its deadly combination with opioids.
