U.S. Labor Department secures settlements totaling $8.4M from meatpackers over child labor violations.

The U.S. Labor Department has announced three settlements with meatpacking companies over child labor violations. QSI, a cleaning company, will pay $400,000 for employing 54 children across 13 plants in eight states. Perdue Farms and JBS Foods agreed to pay $4 million each and reform hiring practices. The Labor Department found over 4,000 children employed illegally in various industries last year.
