Nigerian police chief demands budget changes, sparks contentious debate and lawmaker walkout.

At a chaotic 2025 budget defense session for the Nigeria Police, Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun called for removal from the restrictive "envelope budgetary regime" to secure more consistent funding. The session turned contentious when lawmakers questioned discrepancies in the budget documents, leading to a walkout by Senator Onyekachi Nwoebonyi. Egbetokun also sought approval for a special national security account and urged lawmakers to increase the annual police recruitment quota from 10,000 to 30,000.
