The New Zealand government, in partnership with the Iwi group Ngāti Porou, is developing 48 affordable rental homes in Gisborne, with rents capped at 80% of market rates. This project, part of a $82 million initiative to build 198 affordable homes across 12 projects, aims to address the housing shortage and aid families in need. The Gisborne project is expected to be completed by August 2026.
