Hino Motors, a Toyota subsidiary, agrees to a $1.6 billion settlement for deceiving on diesel emissions.

Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors agreed to a $1.6 billion settlement over charges of deceiving regulators about emissions from its diesel engines. Hino used altered test data to gain approval for over 110,000 diesel engines, mostly in heavy-duty trucks. The settlement includes a five-year probation, a ban on importing diesel engines to the US, and recalls for some trucks. The company will also spend $155 million to offset excess air emissions.
