Firefighters responded around 6:30 PM, finding heavy smoke coming from a second-floor apartment where they discovered a smoldering couch. Despite lifesaving efforts, both the woman and the dog were pronounced dead. The victim's name has not been released, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
