BHP and Lundin Mining form Vicuña Corp., a 50/50 joint venture for copper projects in South America.

Mining giants BHP and Lundin Mining have completed the acquisition of Filo Corp. and formed a 50/50 joint venture called Vicuña Corp. to develop copper projects in Argentina and Chile. BHP paid $2 billion for the transaction, with $690 million going to Lundin for a 50% stake in the Josemaria project. Vicuña Corp. aims to create a strategic alliance and develop a major copper mining complex, with both companies having equal voting rights on the joint venture’s board. The joint venture is targeting a mineral resource estimate for both projects in the first half of 2025.
