South Africa's Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provinces report record-high school pass rates, with some controversy.

South Africa's Gauteng province recorded its highest matric pass rate since 1995 at 88.4%, with a standout performance from Lufhereng Secondary School in Soweto achieving a 100% pass rate. KwaZulu-Natal also saw a significant improvement to 89.5%, marking the second-best performance in the country. Despite these successes, a comment by Gauteng's Education MEC Matome Chiloane about private school fees sparked controversy and criticism on social media.
