Maine businesses sue over new paid leave law, challenging contribution rule for those with existing programs.

Maine's Chamber of Commerce and Bath Iron Works are suing the state over its new paid family and medical leave program, which began in January. The lawsuit challenges a rule requiring businesses with existing similar programs to pay into the state fund without a refund option until April 1. The program, approved in 2023, will provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave starting May 2026. The Department of Labor has not commented on the litigation.
