Former U.S. Representative Doug Collins, a Georgia Republican and Baptist minister, has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to head the Veterans Affairs Department. Collins, who holds a master’s degree in divinity, served as a Navy chaplain in the 1980s and an Air Force Reserve chaplain, deploying to Iraq in 2008. He became a lawyer and represented Georgia’s 9th Congressional District, known for its conservative views. Collins gained national attention for defending Trump during the Mueller investigation and challenging the 2020 election results in Georgia.
