Three fires broke out in Kalamazoo on Sunday, resulting in the death of a 79-year-old woman. The fatal fire, caused by cooking, occurred at 7:20 PM on South Burdick Street, where a resident was rescued. Another fire, set by a barricaded tenant, occurred earlier, and a third fire was caused by a furnace malfunction. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety emphasized cooking safety and the maintenance of heating equipment to prevent fires.
