Scientists develop new non-toxic flame retardant coating for cotton, enhancing fire safety.
Scientists at Texas A&M University have created a new, single-step, non-toxic flame retardant coating for cotton. This coating, which uses an ammonia-based polyelectrolyte complex, can be applied using a pad-dry process, making it scalable for industrial use. Led by Maya D. Montemayor, the research promises to enhance fire safety in textiles, potentially protecting homes and businesses from fire damage. The technology, funded by TEES, could also be used on wood, fabric, and foam.
