Ohio sues USG for $17M over sinkholes near State Route 2, citing failure to maintain old mines.
Ohio's Attorney General has filed a $17 million lawsuit against United States Gypsum Company (USG) over sinkholes near State Route 2 in Ottawa County. The lawsuit alleges USG failed to maintain underground mines as per a 1965 agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), leading to $16.8 million in stabilization costs. In 1977, USG withdrew its maintenance commitment without notifying ODOT. In 2013, ODOT invested $20 million to stabilize the highway.
