Masdar, a UAE state-owned renewable energy company, has launched a facility that can produce 1 gigawatt of uninterrupted clean power, combining 5.2 GW of solar capacity with 19 gigawatt-hours of storage. This marks a significant step in transforming renewable energy into baseload power, capable of meeting increased energy demands driven by applications like ChatGPT. The $6 billion project, set to start operations by 2027, spans 90 square kilometers in the Abu Dhabi desert and is expected to create over 10,000 jobs.
