Group files complaint alleging Grand Valley State University's scholarships discriminate based on race.
A legal group has filed a federal civil rights complaint against Grand Valley State University, alleging the university's 11 scholarships discriminate based on race, violating the Civil Rights Act and Equal Protection Clause. The Equal Protection Project (EPP) hopes the scholarships will open to all students. GVSU says it is committed to complying with all laws and has yet to receive the official complaint. The U.S. Department of Education will decide if an investigation will be launched. EPP has filed about 50 similar complaints against educational institutions, with half taking corrective action.
