Ronald Laidman completes his 45th year of New Year's Day polar bear swim in Vancouver.

Ronald Laidman, a resident of Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island, has continued his New Year's Day polar bear swim tradition for the 45th year. He started the tradition in 1980, swimming in English Bay regardless of weather conditions. His partner, Diane Moran, noted in an email that she never plans trips on New Year's Day due to Laidman's consistent commitment to the icy plunge.
