China's dairy production boom halves Australian exports to China, as Indonesia boosts imports.

China's dairy production has surged, doubling between 2019 and 2023, impacting Australian exports. This growth, driven by livestock from Australia and New Zealand and knowledge from the US and Europe, led to a 48.6% drop in Australian skim milk powder exports to China. Meanwhile, Indonesia has increased its imports of Australian skim milk powder by 69.2%. Despite concerns, China's dairy quality is on par with global standards, according to Rabobank's Mary Ledman, who advises exploring new markets in Asia, Mexico, and Africa.
