Westport firefighters rescued a deer stuck in the icy Saugatuck River Thursday morning.
Westport firefighters rescued a deer trapped in the icy Saugatuck River on Thursday morning around 6:50 a.m. The crew used cold water rescue suits and an inflatable boat to free the deer, which then walked into a nearby wooded area. Assistant Chief Jeff Gootman highlighted the department's commitment to rescuing animals in distress despite the frigid conditions.
