Study finds dog owners face risk from antibiotic-resistant Salmonella carried by pets.

Researchers from Penn State University found that pet dogs can be a significant source of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella, which can cause serious health issues in humans. The study, published in Zoonoses and Public Health, analyzed strains from dogs in 17 states and found 77 cases with zoonotic potential, meaning they could be transmitted from dogs to humans. The researchers emphasize the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices and reducing the misuse of antibiotics in pets to minimize the risk of infection.
