Only 31% of India's highly polluted cities met 2024 air quality targets under the NCAP.
A report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air indicates that only 41 out of 131 highly polluted cities in India met their 2024 air quality targets under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Launched in 2019, the NCAP aimed to reduce air pollutants but has faced criticism for misallocated funds and lack of transparency, with only 25% of cities analyzing their pollution sources.
The report also highlights that 82 cities have used only 66% of the allocated funds.
