Icelandic polls show support for an EU membership referendum and a new national currency.

Recent polls indicate that 58% of Icelanders support holding a referendum on resuming EU membership negotiations, with 53% also favoring a new national currency. The left-leaning coalition government, formed in December 2024, aims to conduct the referendum by 2027. Despite this, only 45% of respondents currently favor joining the EU, while 35% are against it. Support for a new currency is especially high among those in favor of EU membership.
