Bangladesh's Supreme Court to review death sentence of Islamic leader for war crimes in 1971.

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh will review Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam's death sentence for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War on January 23. Azharul, sentenced to death in 2014 by the International Crimes Tribunal, has been appealing the decision since 2015. The Appellate Division upheld the sentence in 2019, but Azharul is seeking a review, claiming innocence.
