Ex-Scottish Labour leader Steven Purcell banned for a year after admitting drunk driving.

Former Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell, once seen as a rising star in the Scottish Labour Party, was banned from driving for a year after admitting to driving with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. Caught on the M77 motorway, Purcell, 52, faced a breath test reading of 76 microgrammes, well above the legal limit of 22 microgrammes. He was fined £520. Purcell resigned from his council post in 2010 due to alcohol problems and later founded a PR consultancy.
