Asteroid (887) Alinda, about 4.2 km wide, will fly past Earth on January 12, coming as close as 12.28 million km. Despite being classified as a "Near Earth Asteroid," it poses no threat. The asteroid, discovered in 1918, will be visible with binoculars and will be at its brightest on January 12. It is one of the five largest asteroids to approach Earth within 15 million km until 2200. The next close approach will be in 2087.
