Sri Lanka's President visits China to discuss financial aid and debt restructuring.

Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will visit China from January 14 for three days, aiming to strengthen ties and discuss financial assistance. This visit follows his trip to India in December and comes ahead of his first national budget, set for February. China holds more than half of Sri Lanka's $14 billion debt, and the two countries are expected to sign several agreements and discuss debt restructuring. The visit also follows Sri Lanka's recent conclusion of debt restructuring efforts, marking its recovery from a severe economic crisis in 2022.
