Seoul High Court clears South Korean government, Holt Children's Services in adoptee abuse case.

A South Korean court cleared the government and Holt Children's Services of liability in a lawsuit by a 49-year-old adoptee, Adam Crapser, who faced an abusive childhood in the U.S. and deportation to South Korea in 2016. The Seoul High Court overturned a lower court's order for Holt to pay Crapser $68,600 in damages, ruling that while Holt should have informed Crapser's parents about securing his citizenship, the government was not at fault. Both entities cited a 1970s adoption law, criticized for enabling fraudulent practices, which removed judicial oversight of foreign adoptions.
