Indian GAC resolved 980 user disputes against social media decisions in a year, aiming for a safer internet.

The Indian government's Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC), established under the 2021 Information Technology Rules, has resolved 2,081 user appeals and provided relief in 980 cases since January 2023. The GAC handles disputes where users disagree with decisions made by social media platforms. On average, over 300 appeals are received monthly, with 10,000 users registered. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology organized a workshop to ensure GACs work effectively to foster a safer internet environment.
