China's Zijin Mining Group plans to start lithium production in Congo by early 2026 from one of the world's largest deposits. The Manono project, set to be the first lithium mine in Congo, faces claims from Australian firm AVZ Minerals. Despite current oversupply, Zijin aims to meet future demand from electric vehicles and energy storage. The project, developed with the Congolese state, was granted a full mining license recently.
