A second attempt to refloat a grounded cargo ship in the St. Lawrence River is planned after unloading part of its corn cargo.
A second attempt to refloat the Cyprus-flagged bulk carrier MV Maccoa, which ran aground in the St. Lawrence River northeast of Montreal on Christmas Eve due to a power failure, is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The Canadian Coast Guard has unloaded 1,250 metric tonnes of the ship’s corn cargo onto a barge, with over 3,000 metric tonnes needing to be off-loaded in total.
A second barge is on the way to assist with the unloading process.
The ship remains stable with no pollution detected.
