Scientists discover new Begonia species in China, deemed endangered due to limited habitat.

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have identified a new Begonia species in Guangxi, China, named Begonia pingxiangensis. Found on a limestone mountain during a 2020 survey, the plant shares traits with Begonia daxinensis but is distinct in leaf shape, size, and flower characteristics. Growing on rock surfaces in forested karst mountains at 320 meters elevation, it is listed as "endangered," highlighting the need for further study of its distribution and population.
