India may require hallmarking for silver jewelry to ensure quality, following gold rules.

The Indian government is considering making hallmarking mandatory for silver jewelry, following existing rules for gold. Currently, hallmarking is voluntary for silver but mandatory for gold, ensuring purity through a unique six-digit code. The move, suggested by Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, aims to meet consumer demand and enhance quality assurance for precious metals.
