Gary W. Rust, founder of a communications empire spanning newspapers and radio, has died at 89.

Gary W. Rust, the 89-year-old founder of Rust Communications, has passed away. Rust started with one weekly newspaper and expanded to several dozen newspaper properties across eight states and nearly 20 radio stations. He was also active in politics, serving in the Missouri House of Representatives and as a delegate to Republican national conventions. Rust was known for his dedication to his community and the communications industry.
