Florida lawmaker proposes replacing mockingbird with flamingo as state bird, adds scrub-jay as songbird.
Florida Republican lawmaker Jim Mooney has proposed replacing the mockingbird with the flamingo as the state bird and naming the Florida scrub-jay as the official state songbird.
The mockingbird has been the state bird since 1927, but it is shared by five other states.
The bill, HB 81, will be reviewed during the legislative session starting March 4.
Previous attempts to change the state bird have not succeeded.
