China's first major winter sea ice study begins in the Bohai Sea by a team from Sun Yat-sen University.

A Chinese research icebreaker, Zhongshan Daxue Jidi, has embarked on a 44-day mission to study winter sea ice in the Bohai Sea, marking China's first such extensive investigation. The mission by Sun Yat-sen University aims to understand sea ice formation, its impact on the ecosystem, and the broader implications of Arctic changes on China's weather. The team of 45 scientists will gather data to develop an ecological model of the Bohai Sea ice.
