Two men convicted of human smuggling in the case of an Indian family who froze to death while crossing the Canada-U.S. border in 2022 are seeking acquittal or new trials. Harshkumar Patel and Steve Shand were found guilty by a Minnesota jury in November. Their lawyers argue insufficient evidence was presented to prove their involvement in the illegal border crossing beyond a reasonable doubt.
