A machinery fire broke out at the Smithfield Foods Patrick Cudahy plant in Cudahy, Wisconsin, on January 4, around 7:30 a.m. The fire, contained by the building's sprinkler system and fully extinguished by firefighters, caused minor damage limited to machinery. One person was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Assisting fire departments from Milwaukee, South Milwaukee, St. Francis, and Oak Creek were involved in the response. Plant operations were not significantly affected.
