China's $85 billion futuristic city Xiong'an faces criticism as a "ghost town" with low population.

Xiong'an, a futuristic $85 billion city in China launched in 2017 by President Xi Jinping, aims to be a model for development but is currently criticized as a "boring ghost town." With ambitious plans including advanced technology, the city has not yet met its goal of attracting substantial residents, with only around 1.2 million people living there now. State media claims this figure includes residents from merged nearby counties. Despite the current lack of social life and leisure activities, Xiong'an plans to grow to five million residents and is pushing forward with major infrastructure projects.
