Children counted 718 birds of 18 species in Sarnia's Christmas Bird Count, missing the city's official bird.

The Young Naturalists program of Lambton Wildlife organized the fifth annual Christmas Bird Count in Sarnia's Canatara Park, engaging children aged 6 to 12 in bird observation. This event contributes to North America's longest-running wildlife census, aiding scientists in monitoring bird populations and developing conservation strategies. Despite Sarnia declaring the red-headed woodpecker as its official bird, the count recorded 718 birds from 18 species, including two bald eagles, but no red-headed woodpeckers. The program offers free monthly nature activities for children.
