U.S. allocates $306M to boost bird flu monitoring after 66 human cases reported since 2024.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is allocating $306 million to enhance bird flu monitoring and preparedness, distributed across regional, state, and local programs. This comes as 66 human cases have been reported since 2024, mostly among dairy farm workers. Though the risk to the general public remains low, the funding will support surveillance, preparedness, and research into medical countermeasures against the H5N1 virus.
