Toronto's airport logs record-breaking rainfall in 2024, linked to El Niño and climate change.

In 2024, Toronto's Pearson International Airport recorded its wettest year with 1,145 millimeters of precipitation, surpassing the previous record by nearly 100 millimeters. Two major storms in July and August, each causing over 100 millimeters of rain, led to over $1 billion in insured damages in Ontario. Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder attributes the extreme precipitation to a combination of El Niño and climate change.
