Linaya Bennett, a 41-year-old from East Moline, pleaded guilty to stealing from five Hy-Vee stores in the Iowa Quad-City area using a technique called "skip scanning." She scanned only a few items while pretending to scan all of them, stealing goods worth $1,699.88 and paying just $244.15. Bennett will be sentenced on April 3 for second-degree theft and using a juvenile to commit an indictable offense, facing up to ten years in prison.
