Canada halts new parent and grandparent residency applications to clear backlog over 40,000.

Canada has temporarily stopped accepting new applications for permanent residency sponsorships for parents and grandparents to address a backlog of over 40,000 applications. The government aims to process applications from 2024, targeting the admission of more than 24,000 people through this program this year, with a maximum of 15,000 applications to be processed. Immigration Minister Marc Miller believes this will best support family reunification goals.
